Project overview

This project was an audit assessing the accessibility of a public health evidence website against WCAG 2.1 guidelines focusing on Level A and AA criteria.

The users recognised for the report are blind, partially sighted and people with colour deficiencies, motion impaired (dependent on a keyboard), cognitively impaired and dyslexic people.

Methods

Tools

I used various tools and methods to evaluate the site throughout the audit, including automated tools, VoiceOver screen reader testing, and manual evaluation. I tried to make use of each technique’s strengths.

The list on the right displays how I used each technique in detail:

Findings

Reporting is an essential step for an audit; I decided to sort the findings based on their severity and easiness of the solution.

I grouped findings by severity, affected users, WCAG criteria, ease of implementation so the report could support prioritisation, not just list issues.

Some examples of the findings:

Reflection

This project strengthened my understanding of accessibility as a practical, evidence-based evaluation process. It showed me how to combine automated tools, manual checks, screen reader testing, and user impact to prioritise issues in a way that is both systematic and meaningful.
